    Monday’s WOD:Yesterday was Diesel’s 7th birthday! Today y’all get a 3rd version of his workout!
Remember, all 16.1 scores are due TODAY no later than 6pm. There is still time for those still on the fence to sign up and do the workout!
I will be at the gym all day tomorrow. Open gym from 10am-12pm and 1pm-315pm will be optimal times to do the workout. Let me know if you plan on coming to either of those times so I can arrange for judging!

Big thanks to all of the judges, spectators, and athletes that came out for 16.1 this morning! I appreciate the support, and am continually inspired by the amazing efforts that this time of year brings to my gym.
Tomorrow open gym is from 9am-11am, and there are a handful of athletes wanting to do 16.1 that will need judging. If anyone can come to hep judge during this time, that would be super helpful and greatly appreciated!
Thanks again for everything YOU ALL do to help make Wild what it is!

  • CrossFit Open WOD 16.1: The Plan Of Attack

    Alright grasshoppas, it’s tiiiiiiiiime!!!!!

Hopefully most of you have seen the announcement for CrossFit Open WOD 16.1. If you have not, or want to check it out again, you can do so here:

and here for the pdf file which explains all of the different scaling option standards:

The trend on social media last night was a mixture of emotions…ranging anywhere from:

    “Wow, that’s different…”

    “Cool! This looks fun!”

“20 Mins?! DAAAAAMN DANIEL (AKA Castro) BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE WHITE VANS? (AKA 20 Min AMRAPs)”

    “This is a gym owner’s logistical nightmare…”

    Captain-Picard-Facepalm.jpg

I can say that I had about all of those thoughts go through my head…

This year we witnessed CrossFit Open history with the announcement of the walking lunges. They have never been in any Open level competition since 2011.

This is also only the SECOND time we have seen a 20 minute workout since 2011.

This post is NOT going to be about strategy for 16.1. There are plenty of videos in circulation that offer great pieces of advice ranging from general WOD prep, pre and post WOD nutrition, warm up and mobility pre and post WOD, and actual gaming strategies.

Like I said, I am not going to address those here, we will cover most of those keys to performance in class, but if I were to pick ONE source of great information throughout the Open, it will be Rudy from The Outlaw Way. Every week WITHIN HOURS of the CrossFit Open workouts being released, he already has his athletes test the workout, and has a very smart and detailed strategy for all levels of athletes to follow. He has trained and continues to train top level athletes in CrossFit and in Weightlifting…so it is safe to assume that he knows what he is talking about. See his video for 16.1 below:

As for MY gym and MY athletes…this weekend has the potential to be long with the amount of athletes we will need to cycle through. BUT, with a bit of coordination, cooperation, and some much needed assistance from ANYONE willing to help…we can make 16.1 a smooth experience.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will be our day to do the Open workout as a class.

You DO NOT have to be signed up for the Open in order to participate…HOWEVER…I will still strongly continue to urge you to do so! I would hate for you to be on the outside looking in, wishing that you would have signed up for it, or regretting that you had not.

We have the space to run 4 at a time comfortably, but depending on the athletes that I have participating in the Open VS Not participating in the Open, the numbers may influence how I run the classes tomorrow.

    IMG_9466.jpg

The class times will not serve as OFFICIAL times, but more or less blocks for when you want to work out. If you want to workout or normally work out in the 9am block, show up for that time. If you want to work out at 10am, come to the gym around 10am. Instead of 11am open gym this will also be a block for us to use to do the workout, so if you aren’t a fan of the early times, show up closer to 11am. I am hoping to be finished with everyone that wants to do it by 12-1230pm, and will look to do it myself around that time. I am not going to worry much about assigning heat times, but if you will need to get in and get out PLEASE try and let me know in advance, or immediately on the morning of so I can get you into an earlier group.

    JUDGES

The only reason I would really NEED more people to show up early would be judging help for the workout. I will need at least 4 or 5 judges for each wave of “classes” to assist with counting reps. This is not as scary as it sounds, and if you have any questions on how you can help judge, please let me know!

    SPECTATORS

Family and friends are welcome to attend and observe the workout!

    See you all tomorrow!

  • Sherrill Lewis Is A Rockstar

Another Reason I Love The CrossFit Open:
:::Insert DJ Khaled voice here…”ANOTHA ONE!:::

Sherrill Lewis is participating in her FIRST CrossFit Open in the Master’s scaled division! She has been doing CrossFit for less than a year, and she came in this morning and started her Friday off by eating CrossFit Open WOD 16.1 for breakfast! Way to go, Sherrill! I am proud of you!

  • DO IT!

Just hours away from the announcement of the first workout of the CrossFit Open, 16.1! Hopefully you ALL still plan on signing up…but if not…there are still ways you can help and contribute.

For the next 5 weeks, every Saturday will be different than usual. There will still be 9am and 10 am time slots, but the “classes” will essentially blend together into one big class.

Everyone wanting to do the workout WHETHER YOU SIGNED UP OR NOT will be able to do so! If an athlete signed up for the open, they will need to be judged during their workout…this is not as big of a deal as people make it to be. You are counting someone’s reps, and ensuring proper range of motion…it’s really simple, and of course I will be around to help!

There is a judges course online that anyone can take, and will be extremely helpful for me if I had a handful of judges with this certification. It can be found on the games website, and the cost is $10 to take it. It is much easier than past judges courses, and I will help anyone if they need help with it!

Another way to contribute would be to come and cheer on your fellow athletes that are participating. As mentioned in my open post, this is meant to be a FUN time of year for our gym…so don’t be the pooper at this party!

There is STILL time to register if you haven’t done so yet! If you plan on signing up….but haven’t….hurry up!…If you know someone that isn’t planning on it… a little friendly peer pressure is helpful…I would hate for someone to NOT sign up, and then regret it when they see how much fun it is!

I will be watching the announcement at the gym in between the 515 and 615 class tonight. Come on by if you want to watch it with me!
