Monday’s WOD:
Happy 239th Birthday, Marines!

Special hero WOD today in honor of Marine Corps Corporal Claudio Patino the IV or “Nene”, of Yorba Linda, California. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Scout Sniper Platoon. After having served previous combat deployments assigned to 1st Battalion 5th Marine Sniper Platoon, Nene volunteered to return to Afghanistan only months after having returned and was assigned a special transfer. He died June 22, 2010 of small arms fire, while cresting a ridge ahead of his fellow Marines exposing himself to enemy fire so they wouldn’t have to. Those who knew him will always remember him for being a legendary warrior, the best fighter, a steadfast friend, and most importantly a loving family man. He is survived by his wife Jamie, his dog Ruck, and his outstanding family including Mother Evelyn, father Claudio, and his six siblings. The Nux IV Life charity has been established in his honor, which helps deliver care packages to service members deployed without families, something Patino stood up for when he was still fighting. The Nux represent brass knuckles, a tattoo Nene had on his chest representing his mother, meaning tough love.

“The true warrior fights not because he hates what’s in front of him, but because he loves what’s behind him.”
